QUEEN OF MOURNING
@sixofcrowsnet heist: tgt/tlot + yellow/orange/gold edit
“He had claimed his throne, and a part of her too. He was welcome to it. For the living and the dead, she would make herself a reckoning. She would rise.”
@sixofcrowsnet heist: mythology figures
Lady Justice originates from the personification of Justice in Ancient Roman art known as Iustitia or Justitia after Latin: Iustitia, who is equivalent to the Greek goddesses Themis and Dike.
The origin of Lady Justice was Iustitia, the goddess of Justice within Roman mythology. Iustitia was introduced by emperor Augustus, and was thus not a very old deity in the Roman pantheon.
There are three distinctive features of Lady Justice: a set of scales, a blindfold, and a sword. The sword represented authority in ancient times, and conveys the idea that justice can be swift and final.

“I can hear the change in Kaz’s breathing when he looks at you.”
“You… you can?”
“It catches every time, like he’s never seen you before.”

”Simple as that,” said Nina. “Did you know I’m next in line for the Fjerdan throne? They call me Princess Ilse of Engelsberg.”
“There is no princess of Engelsberg,” said Matthias. “It’s a fishing town.”
Nina shrugged. “If we’re going to lie to ourselves, we might as well be grand about it.”
@sixofcrowsnet heist: epilogue
running her nails through her hair, inej wondered if it was possible for her heart to leap from her chest. saints, she was nervous. it had been over 3 months since she’d seen them all; she missed them more with every passing moment she had been at sea. she missed the smell of kaz’ blueberry pancakes waking her in the morning; the rumbling sound of jesper’s infectious laughter; sitting in wylan’s study, admiring the burnt orange, jasmine blue, citris green paints that he adored almost as much as he adored jes; kuwei’s knowing eyes and hidden talents and nina; nina, her friend and ally who was so brave, so strong, so amazing, she missed hearing stories from nina and antonia, her girlfriend, about their wild adventures educating druskelle on grisha and their powers. they were all there, waiting for her. home.
the boat that slavers had come to fear the very name of, “iustitia”, docked in the port. stepping forward, a wretched smell travelled through the air and under inej’ nose: death. heart beating wildy and the joyful smile wiped from her face, inej worried for the very worse. they hadn’t return her last letter.
peering down the dock’s stained path, her wide eyes glanced at the signs surrounding the wooden post at the enterance of the city, ones that weren’t there when she left. as the faint ringing of sirens reached her ears, she forced herself to breath air into her lungs. squinting, she made out the words printed in red on the sign…
“BEWARE: this city has been infected with the queen’s lady plague.”

Nina is a Grisha, specifically a Heartrender. She is also gifted with languages. She’s shown herself to be able to speak Kerch, Kaelish, Suli, Fjerdan, Zemeni, and Ravkan, but she may speak more due to her education and training in the Second Army.
@sixofcrowsnet heist: minor characters
Jesper and his mother would pull them off Da’s feet, stifling their giggles, then cover him with a blanket and see to the rest of the evening’s chores. They’d clear the table and bring the laundry in off the line, and she’d tuck Jesper into bed. No matter how busy she got, no matter how many animals needed skinning, or baskets needed mending, she seemed to have the same infinite energy as Jesper, and she always had time to tell him a story before bed or hum him a song.
…
But Jesper’s mother had taken Colm’s face in her hands, so gently, so kindly, with all the love shining from her eyes.
“WHAT kind of mother would I be to my son if I hid away my talents? If I let fear be my guide in this life? You knew what I was when you asked that I choose you, Colm. Do not now suggest that I be anything less.”

“Oh, and put in an order for a new hat.”
“Please.”
Kaz heaved a sigh as he braced himself for three painful flights of stairs. He looked over his shoulder and said, “Please, my darling Inej, treasure of my heart, won’t you do me the honor of acquiring me a new hat?“
@sixofcrowsnet heist: fjerda
”The land was barren and brutal, and that was all most people saw. But to Matthias it was beautiful. The ice bore the spirit of Djel. It had colour and shape and even a scent if you knew to seek it out.
He pushed ahead, feeling almost at peace, as if here Djel could hear him and ease his troubled mind. The ice brought back memories of childhood, of hunting with his father. They’d lived further south, near Halmhend, but in the winters that part of Fjerda didn’t look much different from this, a world of white and grey, broken by groves of black-limbed trees and jutting clusters of rock that seemed to have risen up from nowhere, shipwrecks on a bare ocean floor.”
